Here are some of the things people have said about Minga’s work:

“My wife Trudy and I have owned our property on North Gut, St. Ann’s Bay, Cape Breton for some 20 years. Over the past several years we have built a home here to which we retired 15 months ago.

In 2011 we engaged Minga O’Brien to develop a Forest Management Plan for the property. Minga brought a wealth of knowledge and insight to the project which she executed with her characteristic enthusiasm producing in short order and at very reasonable cost a detailed survey of the property and its forestry resources. She outlined a multi step programme whereby we might begin to restore the lot to its original Acadian forest character and assure long term sustainability. She arranged and oversaw the first phase of this project wherein hundreds of mixed variety seedlings were planted by a local contractor. Her abiding interest in the project has meant that she has made several trips to the property to assess ongoing success.

Because of Minga’s efforts  and her willingness to share her knowledge with us and our extended family we have a better understanding and appreciation of our woodlot , our responsibility as land owners and have derived much enjoyment from the experience.

We recommend Minga without reservation.” –Bill and Trudy Fitzgerald

“Minga’s work ethic, knowledge of her work and lively spirit were tremendous assets to have as a faculty member in the Natural Resources Environmental Technology Program. Her high energy and enthusiasm created a perfect environment for challenging her students and engaging them in their learning journey.” –Lawrence Boyd, Academic chair, NSCC Strait Area campus

“Minga worked with Rainforest Alliance in the early days of bringing FSC certification to North America.  She brought a great mix of solid ecological knowledge, great communications skills and wonderful passion to our work promoting sustainable forestry in Canada.” –Jon Jickling, SmartWood program of Rainforest Alliance

“I also wanted to comment on the great tour I had with Minga O’Brien….I wanted to say how impressed I was with Minga’s knowledge and enthusiasm. I’ve known Minga a long time, but always as a ‘forest person’ and I had never seen her in an interpretative role. I found that she really brought Bell’s character and uniqueness alive through his artifacts. I didn’t think I’d be interested, but Minga lured me into the story. I’m hard to impress, so…well done!” –M. Ravindra

“C. Fenton of Maritime Enterprises Ltd wished me to pass on to Minister Russell her compliments concerning Minga O’Brien (Protected Area Planner). ‘Very outstanding, knowledgeable and helpful.’” –Liz Graham, Nova Scotia Department of Environment

“Many thanks for leading the trip to Lamb’s Lake. It was a wonderful day. Everyone who participated was just bubbling over with enthusiasm.” –Jon Percy, Annapolis Field Naturalists
